We're meeting in person!!! This would be a great meeting to invite a guest to attend. Do you have a friend or colleague who is a possible prospective member? Consider inviting her to attend with you.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Alpha Chapter Meeting Thursday, May 2, 2024 4:00 P.M. Social, 4:30 P.M. Meeting Location: Cedar Grove High School 90 Rugby Road, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009 Please request directions from Google Maps
Hello SIsters!, ….and happy spring. As I was preparing to write this letter I thought I’d look for a beautiful spring quote to kick things off. Strangely, while all the quotes were very touching and poignant none really spoke to me. Then this little gem, by Raquel Franco popped up,…. “And the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep and Autumn was awakened.” My soul went….”aaah”. I guess I really am an “Autumn Girlie”. The crunch of leaves under foot, the smell of a distant fireplace and the warmth of a creamy hot chocolate, just set my spirit at ease. Why, you ask, am I going so deeply into the seasons? Well, the seasons reminded me of our wonderful and diverse sisterhood. It’s because we are not ALL “springs’” or ALL “autumns” that we thrive and accomplish so many great things in our lives and in our organization. It has been my pleasure getting to know each of the “seasons” of which the Alpha Sisters are comprised. Over my biennium we’ve been able to experience and bring DKG “Beyond These Walls”. Our first Vice President, Kristin Massotto, did an amazing job at each meeting presenting programs that were informative, educational and relevant to our daily lives and careers. Laura Perrius, our Second VP, Membership Chair and Scholarship Chair, truly went out and brought DKG beyond our walls, by inviting and inducting several new initiates over the past 2 years. Each of us, even in just our presence and interest in DKG’s meetings has brought a depth of spirit and sisterhood to our organization. I thank each and everyone of you for your support over my tenure as president and I know our new chapter President, Laura Perrius, will equally have your full support. Laura is the embodiment of DKG, as a strong, relevant woman. The lady knows how to get things done. While I may be stepping down, it’s not as if I’m gone. As in the “sage” words of the band Semisonic….”Every new beginning is some other beginnings end”. Megan Connolly and I will continue as Chairs of the Leadership Committee at the State level. So to our new initiates I say listen, learn, observe, see what part of the organization speaks to you and over time, dive in. To our seasoned sisters, jump in stretch yourself, you’ll amaze yourself to see what you are capable of doing. I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting, Thursday May 2 at Cedar Grove HIgh School Library. If you have not already done so, please fill out the RSVP form so Jennnie and Joan can provide a lovely light supper, as always! Our May meeting is action packed but what meeting isn’t?! However, this month, besides our program “Round Table” supporting aspiring teachers, we will be installing our new slate of officers for the 2024-26 biennium, as well as presenting the Grant-in-aid scholarship to one of our graduating high school seniors. You won’t want to miss this one! Until then, I leave you with one last quote, “Don’t wait for someone to bring you flowers. Plant your own garden and decorate your own soul.”--Luther Burbank Warmly, Theresa
