We're meeting in person!!! This would be a great meeting to invite a guest to attend. Do you have a friend or colleague who is a possible prospective member? Consider inviting her to attend with you.
Greetings Ladies! Happy Fall or Summer Part II! I hope by the time you are reading this letter we have finally achieved “sweater weather”. Regardless of the weather, I am sure we can all find things we are thankful for in our lives. Along with my wonderful family, caring friends and secure life I whole-heartedly count my sisters of DKG as a blessing in my life. Each meeting when I can’t imagine the generosity, kindness, and dedication to be any better, I am struck by yet more of the same. I could, and I tried to, highlight each member’s contribution to our chapter but had to stop because each one of you brings a special strength to our organization, our meetings and each other. Thank you for being my sisters!
It was wonderful to see you all at our first meeting and for our sisters who were not able to attend physically (thank you Emily for “tuning-in” virtually) we missed you and hope to see you soon. Maybe our next meeting! Kristin once again provided an excellent program with a presenter from Pathways Women’s Cancer Center. If you were not at the meeting but would like to hear about the services Pathways provides or volunteer opportunities, we have some materials to share. Please see me or Kristin at the December meeting.
Hopefully, you have all had an opportunity to see the most recent DKG newsletter (link below) and saw our own Laura Perrius in the member Spotlight. Congratulations! Laura for a very well deserved honor. Newsletter Link: https://www.dkgnj.org/dkgnj-newsletter-fall-2023.html
Please bear with me as this “President’s Letter” is a bit longer with more exciting news and opportunities for personal and professional growth, as well as, moving our influence “Beyond These Walls” .
A Note from Kristin: Much like the holiday season, our December meeting promises to be a busy one. As part of our “Beyond These Walls” series, we are asking you to use this meeting as a chance to bring a person and a plate.
What does that mean? Step 1: Try to identify a prospective DKG member. Consider Inviting them to join us on December 9th please indicate their name on your meeting RSVP. There is no obligation for them to join. By the same token, if you don’t have anyone you can think of to invite at this time, this does not preclude you from attending on your own. Think of this as an opportunity for a prospective candidate to get to know us without the pressure of commitment. We are just opening our doors to folks beyond our walls.
Step 2: Use the signupsheetlinkedhere (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JcqJMvNlAxN3W3m3CJeE_OngA6RFygZSZ2fAlQzSdQE/edit) to indicate what you will bring to the meeting for us to share and enjoy on the 9th. Please be sure to sign up so we do not duplicate efforts. The cost of the meeting will be adjusted as our hosts with the most, Jennie and Joan, will only have to handle paper products and drinks. The work ‘beyond our walls’ will continue in more ways at this meeting. We will prepare *supply bags” for the women cared for through Strengthen Our Sisters. The requested items are listed below. Laura already has the bags! *We are asking our sisters to please bring the following items: Soap (with little or no fragrance) regular size shampoo regular size conditioner wash cloth body wash sanitary pads a pair of socks or soft slippers samples of make-up We will also supply small cards for members to write a note of encouragement and support,
We also have an opportunity to participate in a toy drive in conjunction with the Glen Ridge Police Department, where our own Patti Caruso's daughter bravely serves as an officer. Unwrapped toys are being collected for newborns to 18 years old. Patti will take whatever we collect back to be distributed to children in need in Newark.
Finally, if you have books to donate through https://www.booksmiles.org/, you may do so at the designated drop off areas or speak with Linda Leddy about dropping them off at her home.
Wel!, with this list of activities we are certainly living up to the motto on our homepage; We are strong, relevant women educators from Morris, Bergen, Passaic and Essex Counties in New Jersey. I must say we most certainly are!
I look forward to seeing you (and maybe a guest) on Saturday December 9 at the Butler TriBoro First Aid in Butler, NJ.
In the event you are traveling or unable to join us due to illness, please send us your email to request to Zoom in. You may send your request to Megan at (lbimegs@yahoo.com) or me at (messineogr@yahoo.com) . You will receive a Zoom invitation just prior to the meeting.
Warmest regards, Theresa
